Why Should I Change My Oil?

Almost every driver knows that they need to change their oil every so often to keep their vehicle healthy. However, while almost everyone knows this, not as many people know why. Why is changing your oil so important? What happens if you bother changing it? We're glad you asked.

Your vehicle's engine is composed of many different moving parts. As all those parts move, they generate friction and heat. Without any oil, your engine would quickly overheat and break down. Frequently replacing your entire engine seems like it would get tedious (and more than a little expensive), so that's where the oil comes in. Oil helps regulate the temperature in your engine, and ensures that everything is running smoothly. It reduces friction between the moving parts, and even helps carry away heat. Sadly, nothing lasts forever, and eventually the oil starts to break down. That breakdown is a gradual process, but eventually the oil starts to be less effective at what it does. If ignored for too long, it can even start to form a thick sludge, and can actually clog up parts of your engine.

It's important to change your oil before that can happen. Fresh oil will keep your engine running like a dream for many years down the line. You should change your oil every 5,000 miles, or every six months, whichever comes first. Not quite sure how to do that? Schedule an appointment with our service center, and we'll help you out.
